    Default "1290" Class M Hard Multi Chine Hull

    The Springtime is coming !

    Is time for me to return to the Models construction after almost 1 year stoppage due to recovery from hernia operation.

    A lot of thinking and discussions about pros and cons for hard chine hull performances.
    I just drawn a new plan for a Class M and there is only one way to verify it.
    Here the picture about.

    Among this design, it happen to discover various painting decorations methods, like "stretch adhesive film" often used for car body, "Hydrographical paint" with plenty of subjects and "Swirling paint", my preferred.
    On You Tube plenty of demonstrations simply using above key words.

    The M picture is the result of a screen shot made on one of YouTube short film.

    What a fantastic way to paint a hull. Will look forward to seeing your progress with this concept.
    Of course you do realize that there may be many model boat builders that will now get their hands dirty with "swirl". LOL

    Glad to see you active again Claudio, I missed seeing your drawing and building activities.

    Since stern and bow are sealed, was a good opportunity the fill the hull with water. I used a blue pigment to get a better view although not very impressive. Filled 4085cm3 of water which is a little bit more then the 4023cm3 as per design. Considering that this volume is based upon the internal hull form, no problems. All in line with the design except that a couple of leaks are found. (second purpose to fill in water)

    While waiting for a complete polymerization of previous work, I started building the mock-up for the Peaked Deck.
    Simple shape, but not easy to make unless I'm loosing my manual capacity...!! nevertheless it will look like this picture...
    Later as usual...sanding and packing tape...

    Hi Clark,
    I'm just designing a basin support box that can be dismounted with the use a swim pool film. Unfortunately living in a flat I'd chosen the shower and missed the bathtub. Easy to put it back to the garage when not needed.

    Booth methods are interesting when I refers to Hydrographic painting and Swirling painting.

    For what concern the Class M model I changed from 5 to 6 panels chines because the draft and beam are smaller at 30° of heeling.
    BTW, the Hull Wet Area is very close to the one with round Hull.

    Expected more stability.

    Before lamination and for precautionary reasons, I have applied two layers of Wax.

    Today I manage to laminate "Wet on Wet" 3 glass - epoxy layers.
    1 of 85g/mē
    2 of 105g/mē.
    Notice the second layers just laying on previous laminated one of 85g/mē without adding any epoxy.
    The 2nd layer is acting as a sponge absorbing the excess of resin like a "peel-off" tissue.
    No need to add too much resin, just what it is needed to cover the full surface.
    This is the way I use to keep the overall weight inside the rule of thumb : 50/50.
    Similarly for the 3rd layer.

    According to my calculations the hull surface is of 40.50dmē, therefore :
    (0.85g/dmē + 1.05g/dmē + 1.05g/dmē) x 2 for resin = 5.9g/dmē x 40.50dmē of hull = 238.95g .

    238.95g is the expected weight of the bare hull out of mold.

    Peaked Deck under lamination with two layers of 80g/mē glass/epoxy and hull weight check. Measured 369g a bit too much, but I need checking.
