    Default Brando update

During next days I will post new pictures about final touches on Alex's Brando.

A second Brando , most probably, will be built in Rome by Francesca : a professional ( as well unusual ) female modelmaker.

Meantime I am happy to report that - so far - 177 set of Brando plans have been sold and distributed around the world.

An unxepected success for our class :-)

    Hello,

after a long silence I am happy to post here new updates of this project hystory.

According Wooden Boat staff, so far more than 200 set of plans have been sold around the world.

I am receiving many intersting mail asking me more details and suggesting several clever improvements.

May be in the future I will re-design my Brando , leaving same exterior look, but - at same time - looking to smooth and semplify the building process.

Number of views of this thread is now exceeding 30 000, and it is third or fourth on the "ranking list" of most viewed within the footy forum.

So far, based on my own guess, it seems that the "average buyer" of this model plans is an unknown human being usually not addicted to model yacht activity, usually a classic boat lover or a person which is frequently wasting his money on model airplanes, gliders, or even toy railways.

In any case, most obviously, I am very happy and very proud of this unexpected results.

See here the final photos of a Brando sistership launched in Rome from Alex

Last but not least, I have been astonished by the photos I have received from Henry G. Frautschy from Oskosh ( Wisconsin ) .

Henry is an expert "classic" aeromodeller ( balsa and tissue paper instead of carbon fiber and other sticky stuff ) as well a professional of "real" vintage airplanes.

He submitted me a wonderful work of art, showing a beatiful example of balsa jelwery.

His footy, named "Bogey" as been registered as USA 363 and is expected to start sea trials soon.

I hope Henry will be able to post here something interesting about the launch

    Have a fair wind !

Default Another Brando from Cape Ann

During my routinely montly googling search for interesting results about the magical word "footy" I have found another pretty Brando's sister.

Model photos have been posted on the "Cape Ann Ship Modelers Guild " , and - most probably - his skilled builder name is Tony Ashdons.

I have sent him an e-mail asking for more details about his footy.

I hope to be able to give you notice about his reply soon.

Last but not least, Tony and his club are the organizer of a footy building contest.

More news about a further Brando on future posts.

    Default Brandos fleet in Rome

I am happy to report that, according an Italian model web site, in Rome there is now a small fleet of three or - may be - four Brandos.

I hope that romans will be able to organize soon the world first "footy one design" Brando class race.

So far I have been able to find only these photos.

My congratulations to the unknown skilled builder !

I hope to be able to give more info about the matter in a not too far future.

Builder of this nice new entry to the existing fleet is Mr. Alberto Nencioni, from Milan.

Alberto, after a succesful launch in his bathtub facility, reports pleasant results of his first sailing trials.

He has been very impressed by the seaworthiness of a so small model under strong wind gusts.

Alberto, as far as I know, has been the first footy modeller that have installed a micro camera on board ( between deckhouse and cockpit )

I hope he will be able to show us interesting movies from this unusual point of view.

The skilled builder of a large fleet of model including a tug, a venetian gondola, a viking ship, has also provided his new footy with a footy transportation box in accordance to the plans I have draw for this detail

Default Digital camera on board Brando : a footy movie !

    Mr Alberto Nencioni,

the builder of the Brando's sistership "Araxi", sent me a link to a very nice video he posted few days ago on you tube.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_FcwhkAc5w

This small short movie shows a wonderful modellers pond not far form Milan, as well Araxi under sail, and - last but not least - also images taken from the model itself.

Next time , it would be nice to see scenes of a footy regatta as seen from "inside" the race

    My compliments to Alberto !

After a few years, there are still Footies being built inspired by Flavio's classic designs (thanks a lot for the inspiration Flavio! ).

I designed the hull based on a photo credited to Richard Alford, and the rest inspired by Brando, and most coming as the building went along...
The hull was made of plastic (Polystyrene) with internal wood framing, and the fiberglassed. Deck and cabin used the same mate

    Hope you guys like it.

    Cheers,

    Tiago
